Dear Friends,

Happy Solstice 2001!

We wish you Peace and Happiness now and always.

We ask that you take time, now, to visit some of the earth's beautiful places that volunteers like us and you have worked so hard to protect.  The desert, the mountains, the coasts, the oceans -- these places have something to offer you.  Enjoy the gifts.

It's been an interesting year in our household ...

Camille is in her second year of job-sharing back at the kindergarten level (where she taught for 12 years prior to a 7-year stint at 4th grade), alternating 1 week of teaching the beautiful kids with 1 week 'off'.  Camille spends her time during the 'off' weeks as the chairperson of the Forest Committee for the local Sierra Club chapter, working on the forest management plan updates, and the regional coordinator for the California Wild Heritage Wilderness Campaign -- an exciting wilderness bill proposal expected to be introduced by Senator Boxer in January.

Geoffrey has thoroughly enjoyed his first full year as a 'professional environmentalist', working as the full-time (and them some) Conservation Coordinator for the San Diego Chapter, Sierra Club.  He's met lots of interesting people, and worked on important projects to protect the environment in our region.  He serves with Camille on the state-wide steering committee of the Wild Heritage Campaign, a fascinating and important experience, and continues to chair the Los Penasquitos Canyon Preserve citizens advisory committee.  Geoffrey's 'The ComputerSmith' consulting business has seen a couple of small consulting gigs this year; he hopes to see more action in 2002 (hoping to keep his 20-year investment in  computer technology honed!)

Both of us continue to enjoy tandem bicycling, tandem kayaking, and cross-country skiing (together, but not on the same skis!), on those rare occasions when we can get away.  Our summer adventure was a trip to Alaska, where we hiked in Denali National Park, and sea kayaked for 9 days in Prince William Sound.  In January we purchased a Honda Insight hybrid gas-electric car, and have had a blast showing it off, talking about it ... and driving it!  We are averaging 58.5 mpg overall.  Who needs Alaska oil, anyway!

Spending time with our family and friends is so important ... and quality time with each other, precious.

Let us know how you are doing...

                                                Love,

Camille Armstrong
